REMA’s production is spread over different locations worldwide. But when it comes to product development, we state “German engineering”.
At the Development and Design centre in Rheinbach, Germany, new products are developed and existing products further improved. Assisted by modern CAD technology and simulation programs, our engineers are always working on the best possible line connection for electrically-powered vehicles and in the power supply.
It all starts with the “small”. This, for example, means that the geometric shape of our contacts, the heart of every connector system for the power transmission, is continually being further optimised in terms of maximum current-carrying capacity and durability. This makes them highly reliable and robust.
More examples of successful research and development are the wet-dry coding pin for the correct connection between battery and charger, or the patented MRC technology in the field of high-current connectors.
We constantly succeed in transferring our know-how into new areas and applying it successfully. As for example in charging connection systems for electric vehicles: Sumi REMA EV Solutions (SREV) was founded in 2012 as a development company by Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd., Sumitomo Wiring Systems Ltd. and REMA.
The development task – the development of combo charging systems CCS1 and CCS2 – was completed in 2016, after three years work and ahead of schedule. Series production of the developed charging systems is now jointly being carried out by the companies involved while REMA concentrates on the infrastructure components.
The successful cooperation between REMA and the Sumitomo Group will be continued in order to be able to react quickly to future market requirements.
We also know that it is not just about the technical details. Product design and ergonomics, haptics and functionality are also becoming increasingly important. That these aspects are always considered in our development work, is shown by the distinction of the REMA tiller head RTH in Europe and Asia with various design awards.
