Experience builds expertise
The history of the worldwide successful REMA Group has its beginnings in 1919, when the company “REMA – Richard Müller Elektroarmaturen” was established near Leipzig. REMA produced connecting components such as cable shoes and connecting sleeves for the increasing process of electrification in Germany. At the end of the 1940s, the company moved to Bonn | Bad Godesberg, where it operated under the name REMA K.G. Lipprandt & Co.
Since June 2016, the REMA Group has been operating from its headquarters in Rheinbach near Bonn. This is where the administration, the R&D center and the company’s largest production facility are located. Another German production site is REMA in Meiningen | Thuringia. Our subsidiaries in China and the USA provide consultation and final assembly customized to the regional market.
Our specialized division for electromobility has been REMA EV Connections GmbH since 2019 – since 2024 in Rheinbach with its own production facility.

Research &
development
Research and development
In close contact and intensive exchange with our customers, we learn and understand their challenges in the material handling industry, the agricultural industry, shipping, airport transportation, the construction industry and in the field of professional cleaning equipment. This enables us at REMA to develop individual product solutions that combine attractive design, ergonomic user-friendliness and smart handling with reliable safety technology.
How we understand ourselves
At REMA, we are development partners for our customers worldwide. We design holistic solutions for every requirement profile based on the intelligent transmission of power and data.
As our power contact solutions, tiller heads and cable systems are developed and produced entirely in-house, our depth of added value is unique. Every step in the thought and production process can be modified to meet customer-specific requirements.
What we do
The “mechanical” realization is about perfect adjustment to the customer’s individual handling requirements. The “electrical” objective is about achieving the highest possible running performance without shutting down the systems.
Whenever we design and develop an individual value chain in technology and production, we think and talk about the future of electrification.
Committees for standards
Norms define standards and form a benchmark for proper technical behavior. They help with communication, facilitate rationalization, quality assurance and thus our day-to-day work. As an ambassador for product standardization at a high technical and safety standard, we are actively involved in the following organizations:
DKE
The “German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies in DIN and VDE” works as a service organization for the safe and efficient generating, distributing and consuming of electricity and thus for the common benefit.
For more information: dke.de
CENELEC
The “European Electrotechnical Committee for Standardization” has been officially recognized by the European Union and by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as being responsible for development and definition of European norms in the field of electrical engineering.
For more information: cenelec.eu
IEC
The “International Electrotechnical Commission” is the world’s leading organization for the preparation and publication of international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies (electrical engineering).
For more information: iec.ch
SAE
SAE International is a global expert group of more than 130,000 engineers and technical professionals from the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle industries that establishes consensus standards. REMA USA is a member of various SAE committees related to development and maintenance of the EV Connectors and inlets.

CharIn
The goal of the organization is to promote and support the Combined Charging System worldwide. The international community consists of top global companies representing every step of the electric mobility value chain and experts working as a team to advance the requirements for charging of all kinds of electric vehicles.

Quality &
Sustainability
Referring to the “0-defect principle” we focus on consistent testing and further development of our processes to avoid any later upcoming issue. Certifications as proof and expression of our targeted actions are an important part of our quality strategy. They confirm our competence and our commitment to achieving and maintaining the highest standards. Regular audits and training courses ensure that we expand our know-how regularly and adapt it to changing developments.
REMA is also an active member in several technical standards committees and is actively involved in shaping the regulations of the future.
DIN EN ISO 9001
Quality management standard
The basis of our integrated quality management system in the REMA Group is DIN EN ISO 9001, which has been established at REMA since 1995. This set of rules is an internationally recognized standard for quality management systems, which has been extended by further management standards and product certifications due to its harmonized structure. This set of rules is complemented and expanded by quality management standards and specific product certifications.
DIN EN 60079/ IEC 60079
Explosion protection in hazardous areas (product certification)
EN 60079/ IEC 60079 is an international series of standards dealing with the explosion prevention of electrical and non-electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres. It defines requirements for design, testing and marking in order to minimize the risk of explosions caused by electrical equipment and other potential ignition sources.
The battery connector type DRE 250 Ex and the drawbar heads type 111068, 111601 and 111602, each in conjunction with the associated barrier module (which is considered separately) have been tested in accordance with the requirements of EN 60079 and certified as approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The battery connector is also certificated in accordance with IEC 60079.
DIN EN ISO 14001
Environmental management system application
Sustainability and environmental protection are very important in today’s society. It is essential that companies are aware of their responsibility towards the environment. They need to take ecological aspects into account within their operations and production processes. The international standard ISO 14001 specifies requirements for the environmental management system. The REMA Group implements these requirements as part of its integrated management system and is committed to complying with them.
The focus here is particularly on:
- Resource-conserving and low-emission production
- Fundamental waste avoidance through recycling and reuse
- Proper disposal of any waste produced
Of course, our products also conform to the requirements of the RoHS Directive. In this way, we make an active contribution to environmental protection – from production to product commissioning. Around 20 % of the energy required at REMA is generated by photovoltaics. The necessary externally sourced electricity is purchased from an ecological supplier. Our office building is built according to energy efficiency standards and is heated by process heat recovery.
We are aware of our responsibility for the environment. Our connectors can contribute to the storage and distribution of renewable energy and thus help to conserve fossil fuels. The REMA Group’s environmental policy is documented in writing and is binding for all employees. We are currently in the certification process for DIN EN ISO 14001.
DIN EN ISO IEC 27001
Data and information security
This DIN standard specifies the requirements for the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of an information security management system in the context of our own organization and thus the REMA Group. Regular training and internal audits ensure that all employees comply with the rules and standards. The REMA Group in Europe and USA is currently within the certification process for DIN EN ISO IEC 27001.
UL/CSA certification for the Americas
For the delivery of our products to the Americas, there are special additional technical requirements. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is one of the world’s most important independent organizations for the safety testing and certification of material, components and end products. REMA connectors (MRC, IRC, DIN and SRE and EV Connectors) have been UL-certified for more than 10 years, and the REMAFlex PRO connection now has been UL-certified since 2025 as well. Most all of REMA EV connectors built for the Americas are UL/CSA certified a BABA Compliant.
Certification according to IATF 16949
The automotive industry demands special features from its suppliers. IATF 16949 certification is the global quality management standard that is applied to all companies operating in the automotive industry supply chain. The aim of this standard is to sustainably improve system and process quality according to the criteria of modern process management. In addition to products that comply with current international standards, we develop and manufacture individual solutions that meet customer-specific requirements in terms of space, equipment, and design. The “0-defect principle” is our guiding philosophy. As a supplier to the automotive market, REMA EV has been certified to IATF 16949 since January 2025.

Quality Assurance
Our quality assurance team is committed to providing compliance with standards and legislation as well as meeting individual customer requirements. By regularly testing and validating our products in our in-house laboratory, we ensure that our products and components are functional and provide maximum reliability and longevity (for required cycles according to technical specifications from the standard or from customer requirements). The specified quality is ensured and verified by regular spot checks.
Compliance
Legal standards, clear regulations and ethical principles provide the REMA Group with a fair, open and honest approach to external and internal interactions and are practiced daily.
